Hamel’s Meats presented with LCU plaque for extraordinary leadership
Josephat Hamel started in 1929 with Hamel’s Meats and four generations later, the business lives on.
It’s one of the reasons that Lakeland Credit Union made “Joe” its second person recognized upon its Wall of Distinction.
On Thursday, LCU presented the plaque to the Hamels in Cold Lake to hang on its wall, in amidst the several cuts of meat, with its Lakeland Credit Union Legacy Award.
“It’s an honor to have him as being awarded the Award of Distinction. But what we all realize that he never would have realized that it’s going to the fourth generation,” Greg Hamel told Lakeland Connect.
Hamel’s has had a location in Cold Lake since 1962.
In fact, the current location on 51 Avenue used to be Lakeland Credit Union.
Currently with a staff of roughly 35 people, Hamel’s has purchased the building next door to help its operations.
“They’ve got a good future ahead of them and they’re all eager. They’re all good workers. They all have good ideas.”
While the steaks and patties are always hot in the summertime, the famous beef jerky also keeps customers coming back. It’s out of this world, at least, it has gone to space.
Hamel joins Victor Ringuette on the LCU Wall of Distinction.
Josephat is recognized with extraordinary leadership and significant contribution to Lakeland Credit Union and communities in the Lakeland region.
