Canada Day to take over Kinosoo Beach

Cold Lake’s Kinosoo Beach will be bustling once again this year for Canada Day with music, fireworks, and fun for the kids.

The festivities begin early on Saturday morning with the pancake breakfast fundraiser hosted by the Cold Lake Seniors’ Society at 8:00am.

At 10:00am will be the Canada Day parade along Lakeshore Drive. The parade begins at the North Fire Hall and finishes near 19th Street.

A CF-18 flyby will commence the brief opening ceremonies around 11:00am.

In the afternoon, kids can enjoy the circus arts of Nikolai as well as The Joe Show in between the variety of activities. Some of the fun stuff includes bouncy castles, face painting, sparkle tattoos, axe throwing, and balloon animals.

The Kehewin Native Dance Theatre will have two performances, one at 11:35am and another at 1:50pm.

As the day rolls along, the music will begin.

DJ Jason Fournier will be entertaining from 4:00pm-6:00pm, which the same time the beer gardens open.

Locals the Main Street Band hit the stage afterward at 6:00pm. Then headliner, Canadian rapper Classified, will perform at 8:00pm.

When it gets dark enough, the City will light its fireworks to celebrate Canada’s birthday in Confederation.

Parents should be aware that a fecal matter advisory is still in affect for the waters around Kinosoo Beach. According to AHS, there is the possibility of skin, ear and eye infections with water contact.

There are road closures to be aware of as well.

  • Lakeshore Drive (8 Ave to 2 Ave)
  • 2 Ave (Lakeshore Drive to 10 St)
  • 10 St (2 Ave to 1 Ave)
  • 1 Ave (16 St to 23 St)

“A big shout out to all new Canadians celebrating Canada. You’re in the best place in the world,” said Copeland.

The parking situation should be noted for those driving to the event. It is expected to be congest, so officials advise walking as much as you can to the beach for the festivities.
