City’s 4H purchase will help two community non-profits

The City of Cold Lake purchased two steers at the Bonnyville 4H District, held at the Cold Lake Agriplex on June 2.

Cold Lake Mayor Craig Copeland and Councillor Bill Parker attended the event to bid on cattle raised by members of the Ardmore 4H Beef Club. In April this year, Council voted to support the group after representatives from the club made the request at a delegation to Cold Lake City Council.

“It was excellent to see our area’s youth learn about raising livestock,” Copeland said. “The effort that the young men and women put into preparing their cattle for market was impressive. It was an excellent opportunity to see all that 4H teaches youth and the passion that the kids have for farming and ranching.”

Cold Lake purchased a steer raised by Riley L’Heureux and another raised by Adley McMann for a total of $9,000.

The two steers purchased will be processed and donated to the Cold Lake Food Bank. The Food Bank continues to see significant demand and is assisting with the John Howard Society’s meal program at its shelter.

“Ultimately we are able to support two great organizations that are having very positive impacts on people’s lives,” Copeland said.
