New Rec Equipment Library Makes Outdoor Activity More Accessible to Community
Community members can now access outdoor recreation equipment year-round at the Bonnyville Municipal Library.
After a generous donation from the Bonnyville Wellness Coalition, a community-run program whose aim is to improve the physical, mental and social well-being of Bonnyville residents, the Library has established its first ever recreation equipment collection.
The Library is proud to showcase the equipment that, for now, consists of basketballs, volleyballs, and soccer balls, as well as urban walking poles. Later additions will consist of paddle ball and tennis sets, and a family set of snowshoes. Patrons can borrow the gear for one week using their library cards.
“Bonnyville is a great place to get outside, no matter what season. We want people to be able to come to the library, grab a basketball, grab a set of tennis rackets, and go hang out with their friends and family outside,” library manager, Nicole Labrie, says. “The infrastructure is there, our parks are great, so we hope that people take advantage of this new equipment.”
The new collection is a welcome addition to the library as it provides patrons with access to high-quality equipment that may be cost-prohibitive. As library memberships are free, there is no cost to borrow the new equipment.
“The goal is to remove as many barriers as possible for people.”
The Coalition welcomes the public to join them at the Library for the launch on June 8, 2023 at 11 A.M.
