Vermilion RCMP charge female after suspicious vehicle complaint

On May 23, 2023, at approximately 12:27 p.m., Vermilion RCMP received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle parked on Range Road 80 within the County of Vermilion River. The complainant provided a licence plate and noted there was a female passed out inside the vehicle. Checks on the licence plate determined the vehicle was stolen out of Lloydminster several days prior. Officers developed a plan to safely apprehend the individual and attended the location. As a result of the pre-planning, the female was taken into custody without incident and the vehicle was successfully recovered.

“In this case, a report of a suspicious vehicle led to the apprehension of a suspect engaged in property crime and the recovery of a stolen vehicle. Quick thinking by the officers involved ensured the arrest was completed in a safe and effective manner. In addition, using a drug recognition expert from the Kitscoty Detachment assisted in determining the driver’s sobriety.” Says Sgt. Corey Buckingham, Vermilion RCMP Detachment Commander.

As a result of the investigation, Megan Hill (24), a resident of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, was charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5000
  • Operate conveyance while impaired by drug or alcohol
  • Refuse to comply with bodily substances demand
  • Obstruction
  • Fail to comply with release order (4 counts)

Hill was held for a judicial interim release hearing. Following the hearing, Hill was released from custody on a release order with various conditions and court set for July 17, 2023, at Alberta Court of Justice in Vermilion.
