Supporting food security programs in Bonnyville-Cold Lake-St.Paul

Alberta’s government has provided $9.1 million to support the local food banks as they feed families and individuals in need.

In November 2022, Alberta’s government announced that a total of $20 million over two years would be provided to food banks and related food security organizations. This funding was made available in response to the increased pressure and demand as a result of today’s inflationary crisis.

“Food banks are increasingly important to all of our communities; as MLA for Bonnyville-Cold Lake-St. Paul I am a big supporter of my local foodbanks and the important service they provide.”

Dave Hanson, MLA, Bonnyville-Cold Lake-St.Paul

“Our government is proud to be the first in recent history to provide support to food banks and other food security organizations. Nobody should ever need to wonder where their next meal will come from, which is why we are proud to be supporting hundreds of organizations across the province.”

Jeremy Nixon, Minister of Seniors, Community and Social Services

2023 funding has been provided through one of three grants: the Food Bank Grant, Food Security Grant, or the Donation Matching Grant. The Food Bank Grant offers funding to all registered food banks in Alberta, the Food Security Grant, allows unregistered food banks and related food security organizations to apply for funding, and the Donation Matching Grant enables Alberta’s government to match donations made to food banks and related organizations throughout December 2022.

Alberta’s government is delivering immediate cost-of-living and inflation relief while working to support long-term affordability through the Affordability Action Plan.
