1 Wing’s Advanced Tactical Aviation Course will take place in Canadian Forces Base Cold Lake for month of April
1 Wing’s Advanced Tactical Aviation Course from the Royal Canadian Air Force will take place in CFB Cold Lake from March 28 – April 30.
The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Advanced Tactical Aviation Course (ATAC) will be held at the Canadian Forces Base (CFB) in Cold Lake throughout April.
Residents of Cold Lake may see an increase in CH-146 Griffon and CH-147F Chinook helicopter flights.
Training flights will most often take place in the training areas of the Canadian Forces Base in Cold Lake during daylight hours.
ATAC is 1 Wing’s premier flying course, representing the pinnacle of tactical aviation training in Canada.
Pilots who pass the ATAC obtain the qualification of Air Mission Commander and are able to plan and execute complex and joint tactical aviation missions.
The CH-146 Griffon utility tactical transport helicopter supports the tactical transportation of troops and material, surveillance and reconnaissance, and casualty evacuation as well as training and search and rescue operations.
The CH-147F Chinook is an advanced, multi-mission helicopter used to transport equipment and personnel during domestic or deployed operations.
It has enhanced self-protection capabilities, including anti-missile protection systems, radar as well as laser warning systems, ballistic protection and self-defence machine guns.
