Canadiens lose in NEAJBHL Final to the Wainwright Bisons
It did not go their way.
The St. Paul Canadiens fell in five games to the Wainwright Bisons.
Despite going up a goal in the elimination Game 5, the Bisons rallied for a massive 2nd period, scoring five goals and putting the game out of reach.
The Canadiens had made it series with a Game 3 victory 3-1, their first multi-goal win of the postseason. The Canadiens lost 3-2 in Game 4 on home ice.
It put their backs against the wall in a pivotal Game 5 scenario in Wainwright. In the end they couldn’t overcome a second period that put that well behind the 8-ball.
“The goal today was to win as many periods as we can and we won two out of the three, and they just scored more in the one.”
“I want to thank all the guys in that room for working all year, for management for recruiting all year, and the players for working hard all summer and putting in hard work all year,” said head coach Corey deMossiac.
St. Paul has not won a NEAJBHL title in 51 years. The drought continues.
Isaak Watters scored the lone Canadiens goal in the first period on the road.
But the Bisons used five different goal scorers to secure what would be another NEAJBHL title. They have not lost a season championship since 2016.
It was a valiant effort all season long by the Canadiens, battling back after being down to the Vermilion Tigers in the second round.
Wainwright now moves on to the provincial championship.
