Lac La Biche-Fort McMurray MLA Brian Jean is encouraged by the news of Alberta’s population growth.

According to government figures, more than 45,000 Canadians moved from other parts of the country from October to December 2022.

“Alberta is calling – and many are answering the call,” said Jean in a press release, who is also the Minister of Jobs, Economy and Northern Development.

“Our province continues to welcome people to experience the Renewed Alberta Advantage – being part of a highly skilled workforce with an affordable, exceptional lifestyle.”

Alberta’s population growth continues to lead the country in the fourth quarter of 2022, according to provincial and territorial population estimates released by Statistics Canada.

The provincial government has been leaning in to the Alberta is Calling mantra, the name of a program since August trying to attract professionals to seek jobs here.

“More than 4.6 million people now call Alberta home. Thanks to Alberta’s growing population, employers are making progress towards filling vacant full-time positions as workers migrate to Alberta to find good-paying jobs with higher wages than the rest of the country,” said Jean.

Overall, the growth rate from January 2022 to January 2023 was 3.7 per cent.

Alberta still has the highest natural growth rate, the youngest average age, as well as the lowest proportion of people aged 65 and over.
