The Town of Bonnyville celebrated 75 years since becoming a Town on March 18.

February 3, 1949 is when Bonnyville officially was declared a town and it is important to celebrate it and that’s exactly what residents did.

“One of the biggest things I have noticed over the years is the diversity that we now have within our community,” said Councillor Kayla Blanchette.

“Of course Bonnyville has roots in Cree, Ukrainian, French and English, but over the years we have embraced new cultures. We have a big Filipino community, Lebanese community and that’s a big thing. We welcome newcomers to this community.”

Everyone was invited to Pontiac Park to participate in the fun activities of the day.

Sleigh rides, snow paint, bubbles, sledding, smores, and hot dogs were all a part of the fun and to end the night fireworks shot off at 8:00 p.m.

There was also a public skate at the Bonnyville Centennial Centre’s outdoor rink.

“We have a good vision with moving the town forward and we see lots of growth. I’m excited to see where the town grows,” said Blanchette.
