Canadiens look to claw back vs Tigers down 2-1
The St. Paul Canadiens will face their first test of adversity on Friday for Game 4 of their second round series vs the Vermilion.
The Tigers have a 2-1 edge in the series after a 6-3 road victory on Tuesday night at the Clancy Richard.
St. Paul has played a variety of one-goal games. Just Game 3, their eighth overall of the postseason, is the only matchup that hasn’t been decided by one goal.
“Vermilion wanted it more than us,” said coach Corey deMoissiac after the game. “We got to find a way to come together here as a team and want it a little bit more.”
Landon Petiot had four points, while the Tigers relied on six different goal scorers to take the series lead.
Petiot and Tigers forward Ryder Kenyon are 1-2 in playoff scoring right now, with St. Paul’s Will Chemago and Kelton McAuley sit 3-4.
Coach Danny Haygarth said it took time for his Tigers team to adjust to the elevated play of the second round, after cruising past the Vegreville Rangers.
“It was an eye opener for our boys. And it took us a game to kind of realize, hey now, we are now playing playoff hockey,” said Haygarth.
“I thought our team has responded very well. We haven’t played great yet and we’re still up 2-1 in this series. We’re hoping that we’re only going to get better come Game 4 and 5.”
The ‘Yens will have their captain back in Kurtis Labant after serving a suspension stemming from a collision in Game 5 of the Bandits series.
Lakeland Connect will have pregame, intermission, and postgame coverage of Game 4 from the Clancy Richard Arena, Friday night at 8:00pm.
