Animal Care and Control Centre open to the public

The City’s new Animal Care and Control Centre (ACCC) is now open.

The new intake facility is located at 5008 62 Street, next to the old Lakeland Humane Society building in Cold Lake South. The building itself will be used to house stray animals that are either brought in by residents or that are picked up by Municipal Enforcement. Right now, the ACCC is only able to accept stray cats or dogs. Pet owners will not be able to surrender their pets to the ACCC and are asked to contact the Lakeland Humane Society to surrender an animal.

Stray animals will be held for a maximum of 10 days if registered and three days if they have no identification (ID tags, microchip or tattoo). Once an animal has reached its maximum holding time, the animal will be transferred to a humane society or SPCA for adoption. Staff at the ACCC will also be able to assist animal owners with getting their pets registered and licensed for 2023. There is no charge for licensing your pet for 2023, and licences for dogs and cats are mandatory in the City of Cold Lake.

You can also register your pet by visiting www.coldlake.com/petlicence and completing the online form. An identification tag will be mailed out. Pet owners will receive an identification tag to help Community Peace officers ID the pet’s owners, should the pet be found. Future services that the ACCC will offer are microchip scanning and animal trap rentals.

The ACCC doors are open to the public from Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm and on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm.

To contact the ACCC, please call 780-594-4494 ext. 7501 or email animalcare@coldlake.com.

To report a stray animal, please contact the Municipal Enforcement dispatch line at 780-594-1345. For more information on the ACCC, please visit www.coldlake.com/animals.
