The City of Cold Lake will begin to issue 2023 pet licences at City Hall and online today.

There will be no charge for 2023 Cold Lake pet licences as the City transitions to operating the municipal animal control services out of the new Animal Care and Control Centre, located at 5022 62 Street in Cold Lake South, but owners will still need to have 2023 tags for their  pets.

“We will issue 2023 animal licences at no charge while our staff stand up the new program in-house over the course of the year,” Mayor Craig Copeland said. “Animal licensing is an important part of ensuring stray pets are returned safely to their home as quickly as possible.”

Pet licences for cats and dogs are available at City Hall and online licences are available at www.coldlake.com/petlicence. The Cold Lake Animal Care and Control Centre is expected to be commissioned and operational early in the New Year and will also offer pet licences when  open.

Once fully operational, the Cold Lake Animal Care and Control Centre will be the first point of contact for Cold Lake Peace Officers and residents who find stray animals within the City’s corporate limits.

Pets with identification will be kept for a maximum of 10 days, while animals without identification will be kept for a maximum of three days before being transferred to an  animal adoption agency. The owners of impounded pets will be charged a $50 intake fee and a $20 care fee for each day of impoundment, along with any veterinarian fees incurred for the animal.

Animal licences are required for cats and dogs in the City of Cold Lake. The fine for having an unlicensed pet cat or dog in the City of Cold Lake is $100 for the first offence, $200 for the second offence and $300 for any third and subsequent offences.

The online application for a pet licence can be found at www.coldlake.com/petlicence. Questions about pet licences or the licencing process can be directed to  animalcare@coldlake.com
