St. Paul Canadiens win streak at 3 with road victories

The St. Paul Canadiens left their mark after facing the Onion Lake Border Chiefs on Nov. 8 with a final score of 6-0. Canadiens goalie Ethin Campbell had a successful shutout with 16 saves.

“The boys came out and had a good start, we fell flat in the second, then in the third they took it upon themselves to get it going again and we came out with the victory,” said head coach Corey deMoissac post-game.

In the first four minutes of play, Grady Preist put the Canadiens on the board with the opening goal, but they were just getting started after closing the first with a 3-0 lead.

Despite a quiet second period, they struck again, putting up another three in the third finalizing the score.

Isaak Watters #14 left Onion Lake with a 4-point game.

But St. Paul was only just beginning their winning streak as they rolled into Vermilion last Thursday to face the Vermilion Tigers.

With an impeccable 8-2 win, the Canadiens are now on a three-game winning streak.

“The focus going in and what we talked about as a team was playing the full 60 minutes and that’s what the guys did today,” said deMoissac.

“I’ve been pretty hard on them in situations where we haven’t been playing very well or things haven’t been going right.”

Goalie Bradley Mistol played the whole 60 minutes and made 31 saves on 33 shots.

The Canadiens opened the first with a beautiful unassisted goal by Isaak Watters #14. Watters then followed that by scoring his second goal four minutes after his first.

Vermilion attempted tying things up in the second, but the Canadiens retaliated by putting up three goals in the late second leaving the score 5-1.

Moving into the third Lucas Martin #17, Parker Sabatier #15 and Liam Boyko #22 scored consecutive goals and finished off the final period.

The Canadiens left Vermilion with an 8-2 win and remain first in the NEAJBHL with a record of 10-1-1.

Issak Watters finished with eight points in two games to not only lead the team in points, but is also top five in league scoring with 18 points.
