Centennial Centre announces Genmec ACL Hall and new video scoreclock
Bonnyville has welcomed two new additions to the community after Bonnyville & District Centennial Centre (C2) installs a new scoreboard in the RJ Lalonde Arena and announces a new multi purpose hall.
New scoreboard made possible through partnerships
The Centennial Centre shared the new scoreboard hanging in the RJ Lalonde on Monday, Nov. 7, after the project was proposed two and a half years ago. This was made possible thanks to sponsorships and partnerships. The scoreboard puts the Pontiacs and C2 right in the top tier of facilities in the AJHL, which is a big upgrade for the community.
The video screen makes for a better experience and brings more dynamic while improving the fan experience and opening up for more sports and events to take place in the near future.
“Walking in here and looking at it reminds me of being in Rexall Place, we hope everyone who comes to the Pontiac games enjoys it,” said Byron Johnson, board chair for the C2.
“We are still looking to add things moving forward such as new cameras will replays can be shown,” said Neil Langridge, associate General Manager of the Bonnyville Pontiacs.
The video scoreboard cost $296,000 — the C2 board raising the initial $100,000, the Bonnyville Pontiacs raising another $100,000, and the board raising another $90,000.
Agriplex transforms to Genmec ACL Hall
The Genmec ACL Hall, the site of the former Agriplex, is finished construction after years of delay. While confirming the sponsorship, the first glimpses of the new field house was shown, equipped with a synthetic multi purpose floor that has basketball, volleyball, soccer, handball and pickle ball courts.
The hall seats 600 people and 400 in a dining room setting for functions.
Les Parsons, general manager for the Centennial Centre, said a challenge faced is the lack of availability in the Graham Field House due to the events and sports that take place.
“People have memberships and don’t get to use them,” said Parsons.
“This new addition is going to enhance the C2 experience and bring more,” he concluded.
They hope for the new sports space to be open in the coming weeks.
