Businesses celebrated at Cold Lake Chamber Business of the Year Awards

The Cold Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce celebrated local businesses last Friday at the Business of the Year Awards (BOYA). It was the first time the Chamber was able to hold its annual awards show since 2019. The awards were not held in 2020 due to pandemic restrictions and in 2021 plans for the ceremony were halted following a round of governmental restrictions.
Since the Chamber had already put plans in motion for the 2021 Awards, collected nominations, and began the judging process, they decided to follow through with the awards as a joint event with this year’s recipients also being recognized.
The Chamber added a category for Business Resiliency, to recognize businesses that either opened or undertook major expansions during the pandemic.
Also acknowledged were businesses with major milestones. Starting with businesses that had hit the five-year anniversary mark. One of the businesses acknowledged with Hamels Meats Cold Lake, celebrating 60 years in business. This is a third generation business, that is currently employing and training the fourth generation of family members.
