Jr. Canadiens lone area team to win in NEAJBHL action last weekend

Lakeland area teams had a rough go in the second weekend of competition in the North Eastern Alberta Junior B Hockey League.

The St. Paul Canadiens were the lone victors. Although they lost in the home opener 4-0 to the Wainwright Bisons, St. Paul righted the ship with a convincing third period effort, beating the Vermilion Tigers 5-2 on Saturday to improve their record to 3-1.

The Cold Lake Ice were doubled up by the Lloyd Bandits 6-3 after the Bandits scored four 2nd period goals en route to the win.

Vermilion went 0-2 on the weekend, meeting up with the undefeated Killam Wheat Kings on Friday and suffering a tight 3-1 loss.

Onion Lake and Vegreville faired no better.

The Border Chiefs lost 7-1 last Thursday to the Bandits to move to 0-2 on the season.

Vegreville also faced some of the league’s best and were outclassed, losing 10-1 to the Bisons and then 6-0 to the Wheat Kings.
