Two people have been arrested and charged after the Bonnyville RCMP were engaged in an armed standoff yesterday afternoon on 5100 block of 53rd Avenue.

Police responded to a residence around 2:00pm on Thursday and while en route, they received an update that a male armed with a shotgun had left the house and was heading toward another house down the block.

Bonnyville RCMP said as their members pulled up on scene the suspect was seen holding the shotgun and entered a different residence.

Residents were evacuated from nearby homes as police surrounded the house. What followed was approximately a 15 minute armed standoff with the suspect, police said.

The suspect was caught trying to flee the residence and was taken into custody without further incident.

A female accomplice was also on scene with a stolen vehicle which was found to have stolen firearms inside, police said.

No one was injured during the incident.

Jan Potts, 38 year old of Maskwacis, Alberta and Allison Nezcroche of Cold Lake, Alberta are jointly charged with eight gun related offences,  and one count of possession of stolen property (a motor vehicle) under $5000.

Potts is further charged with carrying a prohibited weapon (shotgun) for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, obstruction, careless use of a firearm, and break and enter of a residence.

Nezcroche is further charged with being in Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (pepper spray) without a licence.

Both were brought before a Justice of the Peace on Friday for a bail hearing.

Potts was remanded into custody and Nezcroche was release from custody.

Both are set to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on October 4.
