Cold Lake RCMP General Investigations Section charge male for trafficking a controlled substance and other charges

On Sept. 15, 2022, The Cold Lake RCMP General Investigations Section (GIS) arrested a male in relation to an ongoing drug trafficking investigation in the Lakeland area.

Cold Lake RCMP GIS were assisted by the Bonnyville RCMP, Lakeland Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) and the RCMP’s Police Dog Services (PDS) to execute an arrest of an individual within the Town of Bonnyville.  Following the arrest, a search was completed on an associated vehicle that resulted in police seizing approximately 160 grams of suspected methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia consistent with trafficking.

Derek Valin Drake (33), a resident of Cold Lake, has been charged with:

Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
Trafficking in a controlled substance
Failure to comply with a Release Order
Driving while suspended
Possession of break in instruments

Following a judicial hearing, Drake was remanded into custody and will appear in Cold Lake Provincial Court Sept. 21, 2022.

As this matter is now before the courts, no further information can be provided.
