Yaks hire new assistant coach rounding out new staff

The Bonnyville Pontiacs have signed a new assistant coach.

Connor Cadaret will be behind the bench this year with head coach Brad Flynn.

Previously, Derek Hemsley was the assistant coach under Rick Swan for the 2021-22 season after TJ Millar left for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

“Connor is an excellent addition to our staff and organization. With his previous experience in the OJHL we are excited for him to work with our defenseman and help them develop,” said associate general manager Chad Nelson in a press release.

“In addition to being a great fit with the Pontiacs, Connor will be a big addition to the Bonnyville community with his experience working with minor hockey skill development. We are fortunate to add a quality coach to the team and a very good person to the community.”

Cadaret was most recently an associate coach in the OJHL for the Coburg Cougars. Prior to that position he was an assistant coach in his hometown of Stouffville, Ontario for the OJHL Spirit for multiple seasons.

He also brings head coaching experience at the minor hockey level.

Cadaret will soon arrive in Bonnyville in preparation for the upcoming 2022-23 season.

“I’m extremely grateful to be presented with the opportunity to work with Head Coach Brad Flynn and the Bonnyville Pontiacs,” said Cadaret in a press release.

“I’m looking forward to building relationships and earning the trust of the players and staff in the Pontiacs organization. Growing up in a small town, I know how much hockey means to a community like Bonnyville, and I can’t wait to do my part in continuing the strong winning tradition of the team.”
