Children’s Charity Golf Classic raises over $16,000, hits major milestone

The Children’s Charity Golf Classic was another shining success as the organizers have hit a major fundraising milestone in their 10 years of running the event.

With Saturday’s tournament in the books, Mark Reid and his family through the golf initiative have raised surpassed $200,000 in fundraising dollars towards the Stollery Children’s Hospital.

At the Bonnyville Golf and Country Club, 134 golfers participated in the event with 15 volunteers.

This year’s fundraising total was $16,350 through partial entry fee amount, raffle, 50/50, silent auction, ticket sales for lotto ticket frame with $200 of scratch and lotto tickets, and other cash donations for things on the course like food and cookies and bows.

“I believe that number shows what kind of community and friends support we actually have to get it to that point,” said Reid, who added that there wasn’t as many large ticket auction items, but the support was still there.

“We are truly grateful for our supporters, the community that donated these awesome prizes and monetary funds, and the great volunteers we have.”

Golfers were treated in the banquet portion of the evening was a steak supper catered by Yums the Word.

The Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation was represented by Melinda Elgot, and she spent the afternoon meeting and greeting our golfers on Hole 14 food and beverage hole. She spoke at the banquet about how these funds are spent from events like this one, and how important it is for not only children, but their families at the Stollery.

“She definitely added great value to our day,” said Reid.

Reid took the opportunity to thank volunteers, participants, and sponsors for making the tournament such a success.

“These people give up their personal time, wanting nothing in return, and do an amazing job doing whatever needs to be done,” he said.

“We thank everyone involved in any way, shape, or form for the success of the Children’s Charity Golf Classic. Remember, the Stollery Children’s Hospital is more local than you think.”
