St. Paul Education has selected its next superintendent.
The Board of Trustees of St. Paul School Division announced on Friday that Peter Barron has been appointed as the new Superintendent for the Division, effective August 8, 2022.
Barron will replace the outgoing Glen Brodziak.
“We welcome Mr. Barron to the St. Paul Education family and look forward to working with him to continue our pursuit of providing high-quality education for our students,” said Heather Starosielski, Board Chair, in a press release.
“Mr. Barron was selected from a field of truly outstanding candidates. We believe that Peter’s focus on students, his strong work commitment, his ability to work collaboratively, together with his extensive experience in building partnerships will be an excellent fit for building on the current strengths of St. Paul School Division.”
Mr. Barron has been an educator in the province for 39 years, including eight years as a Superintendent.
Much of his teaching and administration experience was with Elk Island Public Schools where he progressed from teaching to a series of principalships, at both the K-9 and high school levels, St. Paul School Division said in the release.
He went on to central administration responsibilities at Elk Island Public Schools and a one-year secondment to Alberta Education in National and International Education before accepting the position of Superintendent at Clearview Public Schools, and later at Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools.
Mr. Barron has a strong practical and theoretical background in educational leadership. He holds a Bachelor of Education Degree, an Arts Degree and a Master of Education degree in Educational Administration and Leadership – all from the University of Alberta. He is currently working on his doctorate through the University of Western Ontario.
Barron is a well prepared forward-thinker who is innovative and takes pride in building quality relationships. He is committed to advancing the Division’s mission to work together to inspire and empower our students to succeed.
“It is truly an honour for me to join the St. Paul Education team,” said Barron in the release. “I look forward to meeting everyone and learning about the wonderful opportunities we provide our students. I know that we are a unique school division that is inclusive and welcoming. I am an optimistic teacher at heart, and eager to serve the needs of our students.”
