Local businesses and groups support Dragonfly Centre

The Dragonfly Centre were the happy recipients of over a thousand dollars from a local business on Monday.

Overdrive Heavy Duty Services donated $1160 to the area’s sexual violence support center. The donation is part of an annual push by Overdrive to give back to the community.

This year, they got donations from local businesses to do a fundraiser for the Dragonfly and then did an online auction.

“We do our give back to the community event every year. And this year, Sherry really wanted to do the Dragonfly Centre,” said Terry from Overdrive. 

“The Dragonfly Center is the sole provider of sexual violence services throughout the northeast and north central regions of Alberta,” said Cheryl Bujold.  “And we provide counselling support and preventative education to children, youth, adults of all genders, and all ages, and we provide services to over 1500 clients per year.

“That money goes directly back into direct service delivery. We serve a vast region across northern Alberta. And this money goes right back to client programming, and to our preventative education program where we go out into schools and educate the little ones and and the big ones about healthy relationships and and who do you tell? Who can you go to should something happen to them?”

On Sunday, Fame Dance Studios was also holding a Charity Dance Showcase to kick off Sexual Violence Awareness Month at Duclos School with all proceeds going back to Dragonfly as well.

All month long, there will be decorated rocks placed throughout Bonnyville. When residents see these rocks they are encouraged to take a picture with them for the chance to win a gift basket.
