Town council supports charity golf tournaments, RCMP Ball

As events return to a more usual pace again in the area, funding requests to municipalities begin rolling in as well.

The Town of Bonnyville chipped in $2000 for two upcoming golf tournaments while supporting the RCMP Regimental Ball at Tuesday’s council meeting.

The Bonnyville Oilmen’s Society is holding their 40th Annual Golf Tournament on June 11 at the Bonnyville Golf and Country Club and council agreed to a donation of $1000.

The same amount was donated for a hole sponsorship at the Ronald McDonald House Charities Golf Classic on June 18 at the Cold Lake Golf & Winter Club.

Council agreed to purchase two tables at the 2022 RCMP Regimental Ball on September 17, 2022 for $1,600. The proceeds of the event will be donated to Bonnyville Victim Services.

“Charity events are here, it’s that time of year, and it’s that season,” said Mayor Elisa Brosseau on The Morning After. “They’re starting to roll in. Now one thing to note, I guess, is the Oilmen’s Golf Tournament, this is the first time they’ve come to council to request. I’m not too sure that over the past few years, maybe if it’s COVID, that they didn’t have their golf tournament, but we see the impact that they have in our local community, so we wanted to support them,” she said.

“Ronald McDonald House, we’ve always supported there golf tournaments, so we will continue that. And the RCMP ball it’s a fundraiser for Victim Services. We’ve always participated in that one. And so that was a no brainer.”
