Glendon man charged in death of infant granted bail

A Glendon man who has been charged with manslaughter in the death of a 17-day-old baby has been granted bail.

Blair Johnson is accused of manslaughter. Johnson’s council made a first appearance in Bonnyville Provincial Court on March 8 and he was granted bail with several conditions on March 15.

Johnson appeared in court via CCTV from the Edmonton Remand Centre.

On Feb. 21, at approximately 8:15 p.m., the Bonnyville RCMP received a report of the death of a 17-day-old infant at the Bonnyville hospital.

The Bonnyville RCMP attended the hospital to investigate as the circumstances surrounding the sudden death were suspicious. The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit assumed carriage of the investigation.

An autopsy was completed at the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Feb. 23, 2022. The manner of death was determined to be a homicide.

Six conditions were implied by the court for Johnson’s release.

Conditions for Johnson’s release include reporting to a bail supervisor within five days of release, no contact – direct or indirect – with his spouse, and a $2,500 cash deposit. He must also continue to report to the police during his release.

Johnson must also provide a prearranged address to the police and not change the location from where he is living without advance written consent. Johnson is also prohibited to be alone with any child under the age of 12.

His next court appearance is April 5 at Bonnyville Provincial Court.
