Barn fire in Dewberry does not appear suspicious in nature

The second structure fire in 24 hours sent Dewberry Fire & Rescue and County #9-1 north for a reported barn fire last night.

On March 17, the first arriving engine found a fully involved fire and a partial roof collapse. Crews stretched lines to contain the fire and worked to remove the tin sheathing to get at the root of the fire.

“St. Patrick’s Day celebrations were put on hold when the second structure fire of the day was reported at 9:02 p.m.,” Director of Protective Services in the County of Vermilion River Kirk Hughes said. “Response time was rather quick due as Dewberry Firefighters had just finished fire practice at 9:00 p.m.”

The fire was reported by a neighbour who saw the flames from his porch and called 9-1-1.

“The building was a total loss, however, no one sustained any injuries and the fire was contained to 1 outbuilding thanks to efforts from the firefighters,” Fire Chief Hughes said.

Firefighters worked for hours to monitor the remnants and ensure no further outbuildings became involved.

A fire investigator has been assigned however the fire does not appear suspicious in nature.
