A house fire in Bonnyville on Tuesday has claimed the lives of two cats.

On March 1, Station 5 Bonnyville responded at 1:00 a.m. to a structure fire near 52 Ave and 52 Street.

“On arrival, smoke was showing from roof vents and doors,” Regional Fire Chief of the BRFA Dan Heney said. “The fire was quickly brought under control and crews worked to minimize smoke damage to the home.”

Lakeland Connect was told the tenant of the home was not injured but two cats perished in the blaze.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
