Anglers take over Cold Lake for Ice Fishing Tournament

The Cold Lake Ice Fishing Tournament did not disappoint last weekend.

With families and friends gathering along the lake, including many locals and many from outside the area like Grande Prairie, Moose Jaw, and beyond, the second annual event from Age Friendly Cold Lake saw many win prizes, while enjoying the great outdoors.

The three day tournament with roughly 400 anglers started last Friday through Sunday and was meant to support the Cold Lake Men’s Shed as well as other initiatives.

“Having lake trout is a special fish out here in Alberta, and being so close to places like Edmonton and to able to come out on the lake and get the opportunity to catch some pretty big fish….so there’s some big lake trout and ice fishing has really kicked off on Cold Lake,” said Mayor Craig Copeland.

“This is an amazing event for us to provide all the services that we can give to our seniors in Cold Lake. So this really brings a lot of financial help for us so we continue keep on going,” said Bonnie Folkard, Age Friendly.

“The Age Friendly Society is really trying to help our vulnerable seniors, bringing everybody together, raising some amazing money for the all the services that we provide. Our outreach program, our meal delivery service, and our Men’s Shed, which were really, really proud of as well.”
