Winners chosen for poster design contest

Two Dr. Bernard Brosseau students will have their poster designs displayed across the Lakeland Catholic School Division.

Grade 6 student Ryann Friesen and Grade 8 student Tessa Ogloff had their designs selected as winners of the Mental Health Matters Campaign Poster Design Contest. The theme was Bullying Awareness, with the winning designs printed and displayed in all eight LCSD schools.

Winner of the Kindergarten to Grade 6 category, Ryann, said she was inspired by some of the other poster designs she has seen.
Ryann added she entered the contest because bullying is a problem experienced in all schools and she hopes raising awareness will help put an end to it.

“I feel like we should try and stop it,” she said. Tessa’s design, which claimed first place in the Grade 7 to 12 category, was influenced by the constant struggles those suffering from mental illness face. “It stuck with me that you may not know what’s going on on the inside. Just because on the outside someone may look happy, they may be struggling with a lot – that’s why I put don’t judge a book by its cover.”

In addition to receiving framed prints of their posters, Ryann and Tessa were given LCSD swag bags. LCSD Superintendent Pamela Guilbault hand-selected the winners.

“These designs are unique; they each share such a valuable message and I am proud to have them displayed in all of our schools. Congratulations Ryann and Tessa,” Guilbault said.

The Poster Design Contest is part of the division’s Mental Health Matters Campaign, which is funded through a grant provided by Imperial Cold Lake.
