Crews fight towering flames south of Vermilion

A fire with towering flames south of Vermilion last night kept crews busy.

The blaze near Township Road 490 and sent Vermilion Fire & Rescue Society, County #9-1 RCMP, EMS, ATCO and CVR Gas out for a reported house fire at 6:59 p.m.

“Chief Krys was first on-scene and reported a fully involved structure fire,” Fire Chief in the County of Vermilion River Kirk Hughes said. A water shuttle was established and crews worked quickly to bring the blaze under control.”

After confirming no one was inside, firefighters took a defensive posture while utility workers shut off gas and power to the building.

“Firefighters continued salvage and overhaul operations well into the night,” Hughes said. “Stop loss was declared around 12:00 a.m. and trucks began being released from the call for cleanup and restocking before being returned to service.”

The fire is still under investigation by the RCMP and a fire watch has been assigned.
