Anglers enjoy winter fun at Angling Lake for Pontiacs Ice Fishing Derby

Last Updated: February 7, 2022By Tags: ,

The weather was the warmest all week–except for when it was much warmer the next day–but that did not deter over 60 anglers from descending onto Angling Lake for some winter fun, on a comparatively balmy -18 degree day.

The Bonnyville Pontiacs 2nd Annual Ice Fishing Derby showcased more kids to the event this time around with a special youth division. Although some competitors had to helped out of the snow, the day was enjoyed by many for the fundraiser.

Fishers were looking to win the big fish category and a stringer of three. Corey Blackmore pulled a northern pike of 29 inches, but it was a close race, coming down to a tiebreaker.

Kyle Thomson’s stringer of 85.50 inches made him a big prize winner as well.

Taylor Salzl was the winner of the youth’s Big Fish category with a catch of 28.25 inches.
