Overnight structure fire in Vermilion
An overnight structure fire was quickly extinguished by Vermilion Fire & Rescue Society.
On February 2, at 9:39 p.m., Crews responded near the Wildmere area south of Vermilion off of Highway #619 and located the seat of the fire in the walls and floors near a fireplace.
Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the fire and prevent any further extension.
“An extreme cold weather advisory was in effect for the region at the time of the fire,” Fire Chief Hughes in the County of Vermilion River told Lakeland Connect. “However firefighters from Vermilion are well versed and experienced in working in those conditions and managed to locate the seat of the fire quickly in order to minimize damage.”
Fire Chief Anton Krys declared the scene under control at 11:02 p.m. The fire cause was investigated and is not suspicious.
“Remember, working smoke alarms save lives,” Fire Chief Hughes concluded.
