Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he was exposed to COVID-19 Wednesday night.
In a Tweet, Trudeau said Thursday he learned of the contact after a three-day cabinet retreat.
“Last night, I learned that I have been exposed to COVID-19. My rapid test result was negative,” PM Trudeau Tweeted. “I am following @OttawaHealth rules and isolating for five days.”
It is unclear whether Trudeau has had a molecular, or PCR test, which is more accurate than a rapid test. A spokesperson for the PM said he’s following public health rules to isolate for five days anyway. If asymptomatic, which the PM says he is according to his Tweet, testing is further restricted, but isolation is also required.
The Prime Minister did not reveal in his Tweet how he was exposed to COVID-19. The PM will not be physically in the House of Commons on Monday, which resumes after the holiday break.
“I feel fine and will be working from home,” Trudeau Tweeted. “Stay safe, everyone – and please get vaccinated.”
Trudeau is set to call foreign leaders today, Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, and Prime Minister of Latvia, Arturs Krišjānis Kariņš. He will also address the Liberal caucus at a virtual meeting according to his itinerary and attend a virtual National Caucus Winter Retreat which is closed to media.
