Traffic stop in Bonnyville leads to multiple charges

A recent traffic stop in Bonnyville has resulted in multiple charges for the driver.

According to an RCMP news release, “On January 11, at 10:20 p.m., Bonnyville RCMP were on patrol on 66 Street and conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle.”

Staff Sgt. Sarah Parke is the Detachment Commander of the Bonnyville RCMP.

“A Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS) demand was made,” Staff Sgt. Parke said. “The driver lied about his identity and through investigation the member was able to accurately identify the driver.”

Staff Sgt. Parke says, “He was arrested for Obstruction and a homemade sword was located in the vehicle.”

The 45-year-old male from Fishing Lake, has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences: Operating a Motor Vehicle while Prohibited, Obstructing a Police Officer, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Failing to Provide a Breath Sample.

“He’s also been served Provincial Sanctions for Driving while Impaired,” Staff Sgt. Parke said.

He was brought before a Justice of the Peace who released him on a Promise to Pay and is set to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on February 15.
