Single vehicle roll over on Highway 16 sends one person to the hospital
A single vehicle roll over on Highway 16 last night has sent one person to the hospital.
On Jan 11, a passing EMS crew and an off-duty firefighter from Legacy Regional Protective Services witnessed a single vehicle heading westbound strike the snow in the median and rollover. The accident occurred on by Range Road 15.
Kirk Hughes is the Fire Chief and the Director of Protective Services in the County of Vermilion River.
“They responded immediately and extricated one patient,” Fire Chief Hughes told Lakeland Connect. “Tones dropped for Blackfoot Fire and Rescue and Lloydminster Rescue Squad as well as notification made to County #9-1 and the RCMP.”

The patient was treated on-scene by paramedics, before being transported to hospital.
“The scene was cleared by Chief Parkinson at 8:09 p.m. and all crews are back at hall and back in service,” Fire Chief Hughes said.
The roads were slick at the time of the accident, and Chief Hughes would like to remind residents to slow down and move over when approaching an accident scene.
“If there is one accident on a highway, the potential for another is quite high – by slowing down, it allows our firefighters to control the flow of traffic and safeguard other motorist as well as responders and victims alike,” Fire Chief Hughes concluded.
