Two Lakeland Catholic students will have their designs featured on the blue shirts worn across the division in celebration of Catholic Education Week.

The Lakeland Catholic Alberta Teachers’ Association Local #30 challenged students to design the logos for Catholic Education Week.

Holy Cross student Jeanna Ignacio is the winner of the Kindergarten to Grade 6 age category, while Paige Parker, Grade 10 Assumption Jr/Sr High student, took the top spot in the Grade 7-12 group.

Each logo will be featured on the blue shirts worn across the division as part of Catholic Education Week, running from May 1 to 6, 2022.

Jeanna said she took her time with her design and put a lot of effort into it.

“I am really proud of myself,” the Grade 6 student stated.

Paige said her design was inspired by the colour blue for Catholic Education, with the book representing students’ continuous learning in subjects such as math, science, and religion.

“I was surprised to win,” she said, adding she is considering a career that involved computer-based work, with graphic design among the options.

The logos had to encompass the importance of faith within Lakeland Catholic Schools and the greater community.
