The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA) held a charity challenge last Thursday.
On December 9, the BRFA donated $500 to the Bonnyville Friendship Centre, which was matched by Station 5, which was again matched by Station 1 for a total of $1,500.
Dan Heney is the Acting Regional Fire Chief at the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority.
“The BRFA regularly does a casual Friday event where staff donate to participate in the event and we choose a local charity to receive the combined donations,” Regional Fire Chief Heney told Lakeland Connect. “When trying to decide what to do for December, the Bonnyville Firefighters Association and Bonnyville Station 5 challenged the BRFA administrative office (Station 1) to match their donations to the Bonnyville Friendship Centre and the food bank. It was an obvious opportunity to collaborate and ensure that a worthy charity got a small bump in their seasonal donations.”
It’s a valuable donation to a valuable organization that cares about the community.
Lauri Fitzpatrick is the Executive Director of the Bonnyville Friendship Centre.
“We at the Bonnyville Friendship Centre are grateful for the community’s support we receive in order to help those who are in need of a little extra support,” Fitzpatrick told Lakeland Connect. “The donations that come in are so very much appreciated. A big thank you to the Bonnyville Regional Fire Associations, Station 1 and Station 5 for their generous donation.”
