St. Paul Lions head to Grande Prairie for Provincial quarterfinal game
There’s one local football team still alive and they are hunting for another Provincials medal.
The St. Paul Lions defeated the Wainwright Commandos 36-12 last weekend and have set themselves up in Tier IV Provincial quarterfinals against the #1 ranked Sexsmith Sabres at 1:00 p.m., at CKC Field (Grande Prairie) on Saturday.
The Lions went to the Wheatland Football League semifinal before falling to the Lloyd Comp Barons. During the regular season, the Lions went 3-2 with a stout defence that shutout Bonnyville, Cold Lake, and Wainwright in each of their victories.
The last two seasons, the Lions have won the North Final en route to Provincial silver medal.
Holy Rosary, after demolishing Lloyd Comp in the Wheatland Football League final, will play Sylvan Lake in the first round of Tier III Provincials.
