Ruffles awakens for Great Cold Lake Turkey Race

Last Updated: November 8, 2021By

It’s that time of year again in the City of Cold Lake. Cold Lake’s favourite homegrown turkey “Ruffles” has from his deep summer slumber to prepare for the race of a lifetime to help the local food bank.

Each and every fall, usually around the end of October, the Great Cold Lake Turkey Race takes place in the weeks leading up to Christmas, and after doing a few jumping jacks and hammy stretches, Ruffles takes off on a grueling race to collect enough donations to purchase 400 turkeys for local families in need during the holiday season.

Craig Copeland is the Mayor in the City of Cold Lake.

“This is a great opportunity for the community to step forward and help raise monies for the food bank Christmas Hamper Project,” Mayor Copeland told Lakeland Connect.

  3. Watch Ruffles as he races to collect donations to purchase 400 turkeys by December 10! Track his progress on the “Race Track” banner outside the Cold Lake and District FCSS building at 5220-54 Street.

“We all know that these are tough economic times for some people and the Great Cold Lake Turkey Race is a fun way to help out raising funds let us get Ruffles to 400 turkeys,” Mayor Copeland said. “The staff at FCSS Cold Lake and the food bank deserve the credit for putting together this fun fundraising idea.”
