Assumption Jr/Sr. High School teacher Shayne Midford will be coaching in a national tournament this summer, it was announced on Wednesday.

Midford was named the associate head coach for the 18U Boys’ Alberta Basketball Team, which will be representing the province at the 2022 Canada Summer Games.

“I was thrilled to be named the associate head coach for the provincial team, and I look forward to representing Alberta next summer,” Midford said in a LCSD press release. “It will be a fantastic experience and opportunity to coach alongside Reagan Wood and Brandon Brock.”

A longtime teacher and coach at Assumption School of 21 years, Midford was recently named the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association’s Zone Merit Award recipient handed out “in recognition of outstanding service to the students of Alberta Schools in the promotion and operation of an athletic program.”

He is familiar with the head coach Reagan Wood and describes him as, “An amazing coach and men tor for youth, while Brandon [Brock] will bring youthful exuberance and a technical component that can be applied in our preparation.”

“Anytime you can represent your province in a national competition, it’s a pretty proud moment,” he said.
