Fire Chief resigns from Bonnyville Region Fire Authority
Jay Melvin became the Regional Fire Chief effective December 1, 2018, and today Lakeland Connect has learned that he resigned his position from the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BFRA).
Melvin has been with the Regional Fire Authority since 2012 and was the previous Regional Deputy Fire Chief before he assumed the role as Fire Chief.
Lakeland Connect reached out to the former chief but he declined to comment.
Mayor of the Town of Bonnyville, Elisa Brosseau told Lakeland Connect, “This is a personal decision made by Chief Jay Melvin.”
Brosseau is also the chair of the BRFA.
“The board of directors has regretfully accepted his resignation,” Mayor Brosseau said. “Jay has been a strong leader for the BRFA, and we would like to thank him for his dedicated service. We fully support Jay in his decision although we are sad to see him go.”
Mayor Brosseau says Dan Henney is the Acting Fire Chief for the interim while going through the formal recruitment process.
In a media release the BRFA says Jay will be staying with the Authority until his departure in an administrative role to aid in the transition.
Lakeland Connect would like to say thank you to the former chief for his dedication to our communities and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
