Early morning field fire south of Blackfoot
An field fire this morning had Blackfoot Fire and Rescue members out of bed early.
“Tones dropped this morning at ‘O’Dark-Thirty,’ 4:18 a.m., for a report of a field fire south of Blackfoot,” County Fire Chief Kirk Hughes told Lakeland Connect. “Blackfoot Fire and Rescue was dispatched.”
Fire Chief Kirk Hughes says, “Arriving crews found several piles of grass clippings alight, and a few other nearby piles smoldering. Firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the flames and ensure the piles were fully out to prevent a rekindle.”

Crews remained on-scene until 7:00 a.m., with a fire investigation following up later in the morning.
“The fire cause was determined and is not suspicious,” Fire Chief Kirk Hughes said. “Protective Services staff will be following up regarding an illegal burn pit.”
