Suspicious car fire under investigation
A suspicious car fire south of Range Road 15 last night was handled quickly by Blackfoot Fire and Rescue.
Shortly before 9:00 p.m., Blackfoot Fire and Rescue rushed to the blaze which lit the night sky south of Range Road 15.

County Fire Chief Kirk Hughes says, “Blackfoot Car #1, Pump, Tanker and Rapid responded to the incident. Upon arriving on-scene, Chief Parkinson noted a fully involved vehicle fire had ignited a clump of dense bush.”
Crews were directed towards the flanks of the growing grass fire while an attack was made on the car.

“As this was a suspicious event, the RCMP were notified and County #9-1 was dispatched,” Chief Hughes said. “A preliminary investigation was conducted on-scene last night and it was determined that the fire was certainly suspicious in its cause and origin. The RCMP will continue the investigation, but it looks like an arson at this stage.”
Firefighters stabilized the scene, including managing to extinguish the field fire. The scene was cleared shortly before 10:00 p.m. and turned over to the RCMP for further investigation.
