Kehewin man dies in MVA after swerving to avoid dog

One man is dead from a single vehicle rollover in Kehewin on Friday after he swerved to avoid a dog on the road.

According to the Bonnyville RCMP, “On Oct. 15, at 2:45 p.m. the Bonnyville RCMP responded to a single vehicle fatal rollover on the Kehewin Cree Nation.”

“The investigation determined a SUV travelling east on Highway 657, swerved to avoid a dog on the road,” Cpl. Sikorski said. “The vehicle rolled into the north ditch.”

The Kehewin Cree Nation Fire Department attended and provided assistance and traffic control. The Bonnyville Fire Department assisted with extrication and righting the vehicle.

Police say a witness to the collision stopped and assisted a 38-year-old female passenger, of Kehewin Cree Nation, who  had minor injuries.

“She was treated by EMS on scene,” Cpl. Sikorski said. “The 47-year-old male driver, of Kehewin Cree Nation, was pronounced deceased on scene by EMS.”

The Bonnyville RCMP investigation is ongoing. An Alberta RCMP Collision Reconstructionist attended and is assisting with this investigation.
