When police arrived at the residence, information was received that two women along with the man were inside.

The scene was immediately contained by police. Traffic was re-routed as a precaution.

When Lakeland Connect arrived on scene, the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) from Edmonton had just arrived and heavily armed officers contained  a perimeter around 65 Avenue. Dogs could be heard barking as Police Dog Services (PDS) and RCMP Air Services were dispatched to the location. Police also used a drone which hovered above the property which was surrounded by the RCMP.

A police negotiator echoed in the frosty air from a loud speaker asking the two women along with the man inside to pick up a phone which had been placed on the back patio of the home by police.

The man refused to leave the residence when police made contact. It is unclear what type of weapon he was armed with, or what he was wanted for.

Residents in the area reported on social media that they were advised to take refuge in their basements while the standoff unfolded.

“The man and two women were arrested without incident,” the RCMP stated. “Further information to follow as the investigation continues.”

The Cold Lake RCMP thank the public for their patience during traffic disruptions around the area of 65 Ave.

Lakeland Connect will bring you more information when available.
