Turkey blast challenge happening this weekend at Bonnyville Legion

Last Updated: October 5th, 2021By

It’s Thanksgiving weekend as turkey enthusiasts and flavour specialists will emerge to try to cook the best bird this weekend which is all part of a free community dinner at the Bonnyville Legion.

On Saturday, October 9, the Bonnyville Legion’s 4th annual Turkey Blast Challenge will pit competitors against each other to see who can cook the best deep-fried, barbeque, or infrared turkey.

Afterward, there is a free community dinner for anyone to come and enjoy.

“Come see who can cook the best deep-fried, BBQ or infrared turkey and stay for the music and the meal,” the Bonnyville Legion stated.

Lakeland Connect has accepted the challenge and our staff will be on location to see if we can prepare the ultimate deep-fried turkey.

“You could have the bragging rights for the whole next year,” Jamie Beaupre President of the Legion said. “For the rest of the community, our doors will open at 4:30 p.m. for a free turkey dinner with mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, and veggies.”

Beaupre says he would like the public to think of the less fortunate during this Thanksgiving weekend.

“Please bring something for the food bank, a toy for Santa’s helpers, or a cash donation for the Christmas hampers,” Beaupre said.

All musicians and singers are also welcome.

“Please come as we’re having an open mic for bands, solos, or even karaoke,” Beaupre said. “It’s gonna be a great evening.”

Lakeland Connect will be live on location on Saturday, October 9.
