Grand opening planned for Vermilion Wastewater Treatment Facility

Last Updated: August 17, 2021By

The Grand Opening of the Vermilion Wastewater Treatment Facility will take place on August 27, 2021.

The Town of Vermilion says it is a celebration of the collaboration between all three levels of Government.

Andrea Wilkinson is an Executive Assistant with the Town of Vermilion.

“This partnership has provided essential infrastructure that will serve both the Town of Vermilion and the environment for many years to come. Without the support from our Federal and Provincial Counterparts, this project would have been very difficult to fund,” Wilkinson said in a news release.

Preliminary Engineering for this facility wrapped up in June of 2017, with detailed design beginning in August 2018, and construction beginning in May of 2019. The total construction project cost was $20,000,000.

The Town of Vermilion was fortunate to receive $8,083,680 of the funding through the Clean Water Wastewater Fund and $3,400,000 from the Alberta Municipal Water Wastewater Program. $1,000,000 came from the Municipal Sustainability Initiative, with the balance of the funding coming from municipal contributions.

The Town of Vermilion is in the final stages of the commissioning of their Wastewater Treatment Facility and will be hosting the Grand Opening on Friday, August 27, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.

“We look forward to the opportunity to officially open our facility,” the Town of Vermilion stated.
