Bonnyville RCMP Briefs

The Bonnyville RCMP responded to 155 calls for service this week.

On July 9, a resident reported that his light brown Chevrolet Silverado 2004 at been stolen overnight at the Day Inn in Bonnyville. The theft occurred overnight. Video Footage obtained from Days Inn showing what appears to be two male suspects. The truck remains outstanding.

Also on July 9, a 911 call was received for a fire at Kehewin Catholic Church. The Mounties rushed to the scene and the Kehewin Fire Department was already on scene. Bonnyville Fire arrived shortly after. Through investigation members located and arrested a suspect. One person is charged in this investigation however details will not be released on the accused because of the youth offenders act.

“This fire appears to be an isolated incident and not related to other church arsons across the country,” the RCMP stated.

Later that evening after the church fire, the RCMP received a report of a stolen quad with tracker technology attached to it.  The owner of the quad was able to lead police directly to the residence where the stolen property was located. The RCMP charged 40-year-old Lyndon Badger with theft, possession of stolen property and mischief.  He was taken before a Justice of the Peace and released on a $1000 no cash promise to pay. He is set to appear in court on August 3rd, 2021 in Bonnyville.

On July 13, the RCMP received a call from a resident who advised that he had been reviewing security camera footage and saw an off road vehicle come onto his property and appeared to enter one of his storage units. The Mounties attended the scene of the crime and located a storage unit which was supposed to be empty as per the property owner. Inside the Mounties located a side by side that was a suspect vehicle in multiple break and enters. Stolen goods were seized and the side by side was towed to detachment. A 31-year-old, Christopher Olszowka was remanded into custody by a Justice of the Peace.

On July 14, a local business reported that they had two air soft guns stolen from their store. The suspect departed the scene in a black truck, surveillance video was provided to the RCMP and the suspect has been identified. Investigation is ongoing and charges will be laid.

On July 15, the RCMP received a report of an assault at the 7/11 on 37th Street in Bonnyville. The complainant was able to identify the suspect and the investigation is ongoing.

On July 16, a resident attended the Bonnyville Detachment to report that her Ford F150 was broken into overnight on 51st Ave at 50th Street. The truck was damaged and a window smashed which may have alerted people in the area.  If anyone has any information on the theft or can identify a suspect please contact the Bonnyville RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
