Vegreville’s Road Construction Season Enters ‘High Gear’

Last Updated: July 14, 2021By

The Town of Vegreville is asking for patience as summer road construction officially gets underway.

Effective Wednesday, July 14, crews will begin the process of removing and replacing the concrete edging of the crosswalks in downtown Vegreville – part of the larger mill and overlay project.

This project will result in the immediate closure of the crosswalk on 50th Street, North of 48th Avenue to all vehicle traffic for a minimum of four days.

“It’s important to note that even while it may appear that work is completed or that there isn’t anything being done while the crosswalk is closed, a major part of the closures is the curing process,” Dale Lefebvre, Director, Town of Vegreville Infrastructure, Planning & Development said. “We can’t allow traffic through the crosswalk while the concrete sets and we’re asking for patience throughout the project.”

The downtown crosswalk project will continue at each intersection rolling north to 52nd Avenue as weather permits.

The Town of Vegreville will continue to keep residents informed of upcoming crosswalk and road closures as the project progresses with notices at vegreville.com and through social media channels.

Motorists are asked to respect contractors by traveling with caution near construction zones and abiding by all barricades and to use other routes when possible.
