Assumption Junior/Senior High School names new principal

Lakeland Catholic School Division is pleased to announce Leanne MacDonald as the Principal of Assumption Junior/Senior High School
in Cold Lake beginning in August 2021.

MacDonald was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. Leanne and her husband Scott have two children, a daughter Mhairi who is 12-years-old and a son Ryan who is 8-years-old.

She graduated from Cape Breton University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science with a Major in Biology. MacDonald completed a Bachelor of Education degree in Secondary Education from St. Francis Xavier University in 2003. She holds a Master of Education degree in Education (Administration and Leadership) from St. Francis Xavier University which she obtained in 2012.

MacDonald’s teaching career began in 2003 at Elizabeth Settlement near Cold Lake, Alberta. She taught Grade one, Grade 7/8 Math and Science and she was Principal for one year. In 2014, Leanne began teaching with Lakeland Catholic at Assumption Junior/Senior High School as a Classroom Support Teacher (CST). In 2017, Leanne became the Vice Principal of Assumption.

MacDonald enjoys spending time with friends and family. She enjoys watching hockey; especially her daughter Mhairi who is a goaltender. Leanne is a long-time member of Holy Name Parish at 4-Wing Cold Lake.

When asked about what she hopes to bring to this position, she said, “Once again I feel truly blessed to be part of such an amazing school  community. Assumption has always been a treasure to me. My husband started his career here in 2002 as a teacher under the leadership of Mr. Rodger Jackson. I feel Assumption is a part of my family and I am proud to be a Crusader. I am humbled to continue this role that was so carefully and faithfully carved by our past administrators. This new opportunity to guide and lead our staff as we work together to support, enrich and spiritually guide our youth is an honour.”

Matthew 6:21 is an example of scripture that resonates with Leanne, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

MacDonald will commence her position as Principal at Assumption Junior/Senior High School in August 2021. Congratulations Leanne on your new position. May God continue to bless you and reward you with success.
